Karen Kane / FIFTEEN TWENTY
ASSISTANT DESIGNER
 |  June 2023- Present

Using the Vantage Point PLM system, I create detailed Tech Packs that include style numbers/names, materials, Points of Measurement (POMs), fit comments, grading rules, construction details, pattern references, and annotated specification pages. I also render CADs and manage purchase orders (POs), coordinate with vendors via email, and negotiate pricing for imported goods.

In addition, I handle SMS photography by capturing and editing flat images for line sheets. I actively participate in development meetings, trend research, color and inspiration sourcing, compiling seasonal design boards, flash costing, and generating cut tickets for domestic styles. I also manage duplicate tracking and counter costing.

I support the technical designer by evaluating fits for domestic production, communicating with pattern makers regarding production fit changes, and assisting with fabric testing. My responsibilities also include measuring samples at multiple stages—prototypes, salesman samples, pre-production, and top of production—to ensure consistency and quality.

    Sample Coordinator / Design Assistant
    Karen Kane Inc. | May 2021 – June 2023

Managed the sample process from development to delivery, ensuring on-time seasonal launches. Coordinated with design, production, and sales teams to track 1,800–2,000 samples per season. Responsibilities included receiving, invoicing, updating reports, managing sample check-in/out, and maintaining inventory. Supported sales meetings, fittings, and photoshoots by organizing and prepping samples. Handled sample requests from vendors and partners, managed promo item inventory, and assisted with on- and off-site shoots (steaming, styling, organizing, and logging photographed styles).

Production Assistant at J. Augur Designs  | 2008

As a Production Assistant to a California-based designer, I helped create artisanal, handcrafted bags, accessories, and home décor using vintage, distressed, and treated materials. My responsibilities spanned the full production process—including material preparation, dye setting, hardware installation, pattern making, cutting, and final assembly. I also operated industrial sewing machines, including single needle, overlock, and walking foot models.

      Pébéta Vintage  | 2012 - 2021

I successfully owned and operated a vintage clothing business, curating one-of-a-kind pieces and showcasing them at renowned markets such as the Rose Bowl Flea Market and Melrose Trading Post. Through my online e-commerce store, I connected with customers by presenting thoughtfully styled and professionally photographed collections.

      PHOTOSHOOT 3

      Spring/Summer 2020 Editorial

This photoshoot took place in Highland Park, California, with the goal of celebrating vintage fashion by taking it back to the eras it came from. The styling and gritty photography were inspired by a playful mix of Scarface meets Cher—if they had a baby and moved to L.A., where retro fashion is thriving. The images were intentionally shot using a specialty lens to capture a vintage feel that matches the mood and spirit of the time.

Design Project : Inspired by Three Women
      Spring 2020

This concept collection draws inspiration from Robert Altman’s avant-garde film Three Women, particularly its surreal narrative structure, soft pastel color palette, and the evocative mural work of artist Bodhi Wind. I reinterpreted these elements through the lens of contemporary streetwear, working primarily with assorted knits, twill, nylon, satin, and cotton voile.

The project focused on experimenting with a range of fabric treatments and techniques—including upcycling, cutting, hand dyeing, painting, block printing, and distressing—to reconstruct and transform materials. Rather than producing full garments, I created sewn mock-ups that highlighted one distinctive design feature from each look in the collection. This approach allowed for targeted testing of construction methods, exploration of hand-feel and texture outcomes, and refinement of individual design elements.

      Mood Broard  /  Linesheet

      Tennis Anyone? (Spring/Summer 2012)

A playful color analysis inspired by the world of tennis. The palette draws from classic court elements—Court (green), Clay (red clay), Soft Serve (yellow), and Burgundy—to evoke vintage sport aesthetics. The collection features retro tennis references with a modern twist, blending nostalgic charm and athletic flair.
